Pittsburgh Musical Theater will close out its “Magical Movie Season” with their rendition of the Jim Jacobs classic musical, “Grease”. Broadway’s 15th longest running show, which made its debut in 1971, follows ten Chicago high schoolers through the rigors of life, love, politics, tight jeans, and unabashed dancing. Under the direction of Trey Compton, and choreography of Lisa Elliot, the PMT crew will transform the Byham Theater into a circa-1950’s setting that Scott Bakula would be proud of.
As the 2016 season pulls the curtain, we asked Colleen Doyno (Petrucci), Executive Artistic Director of PMT, how she felt about closing the year out with such an iconic show, and her thoughts on the season as a whole.
“It has been an amazing year of reliving those memories of our favorite movie musicals live on our stages. We have enjoyed all the great music, dances, styles and hairdos that goes along with them. Grease, known as America’s favorite musical, is sure to cap off all that in grand style. As the song from Grease states, “We go together”.
PMT is proud to continue to provide the most affordable theater tickets in the city. We have focused on affordable family fun for all and we certainly have succeeded with that this year.
We look forward to announcing our 25th Anniversary Season from the stage throughout the Grease run,” said Doyno.
Musical accompaniment is directed by Dr. Brent Alexander, and will include fan favorites like, “Greased Lightning”, “Go Together”, and “The One That I Want”.
Ricky Gee will play Danny Zuko, head bad boy of The Greasers, and Lara Hayhurst will play his love interest, Sandy. Special guests include Jack “Johnny Angel ” Hunt as Teen Angel, and Mike Frazer of 3ws Radio will reprise the role of Vince Fontaine.
PMT’s production of “Grease” runs from April 21-May 1. For more information, visit PMT Online for more information.
